The Black Tiger Badis (Dario dario), also known as Scarlet Badis, is a small and colorful freshwater fish native to India and Bangladesh. Here's some information about them:

1. **Size:** They are tiny, usually reaching around 0.8 to 1 inch (2 to 2.5 cm) in length.

2. **Coloration:** Male Black Tiger Badis are known for their striking colors, displaying vibrant shades of red, blue, and black. Females are generally less colorful.

3. **Habitat:** In the wild, they inhabit slow-moving waters with dense vegetation, so replicating a similar environment in the aquarium is beneficial.

4. **Tank Requirements:** A well-planted aquarium with hiding spots and soft substrate is ideal. They prefer slightly acidic to neutral water conditions. Keep in mind that they are best suited to a species-only tank or with other peaceful, small fish.

5. **Diet:** They are carnivorous and prefer live or frozen foods like small insects, worms, and brine shrimp. High-quality micro pellets or flakes can also be part of their diet.

6. **Behavior:** Black Tiger Badis can be territorial, especially the males during the breeding season. It's recommended to keep them in pairs or small groups with plenty of hiding spots to reduce aggression.

7. **Breeding:** Breeding can be a bit challenging. Providing dense vegetation and maintaining stable water conditions with soft, slightly acidic water may encourage spawning. The male will guard the eggs until they hatch.

8. **Water Parameters:** They prefer slightly acidic to neutral water with a temperature range of 72-79°F (22-26°C).

As with any aquarium species, it's crucial to research and create an environment that suits their specific needs. Regular monitoring of water parameters and providing a varied, balanced diet will contribute to the well-being of Black Tiger Badis in captivity.
